Women’s Entrepreneurship Day
Today (and everyday) is a day to #choosewomen owned businesses. In Australia, 38% of small businesses are owned by women and in New Zealand, this is 27% compared to 42% in the United States (which normally (still have) have a lot to answer for).
At the same time, women perform 66% percent of the world’s work (both paid and unpaid) yet only earn 10 percent of the world’s income! If that wasn’t enough to rile you up, of the 1.3M (known) people living in severe poverty globally, 70 percent are women and girls!
Here’s how to support female entrepreneurs (adapted from Mastercard’s Global Women SME Insight’s report):
Pay your bills fast: Women are more cash cautious and less likely to take out loans or lines of credit to pursue business goals. Show your love by paying invoicing on time, being flexible with your payment terms and speedy with purchase order processes.
Give us a like: Women-owned businesses are too bashful: women drag their feet when it comes to using and building their confidence in online marketing, especially social media. Give us a break if we are not boasting about our achievement’s online and when we do, be sure to give us some love!
Spend with us: Women owned businesses are more likely to support and employ other women (9 is the average). Conversation Co is 100% owned by female director Cindy Plowman. We employ 7 permanent staff and 5 of our 7 casual facilitators are women.
